How My Luxury Vinyl Flooring Saved Me Thousands During a Flood

When we first moved into our new home, the excitement of finally seeing everything come together was unbeatable. The painting was done, the baseboards and floors were finished, but we hadn’t yet moved in any furniture, and we weren’t living there just yet. We were making a few last-minute changes in the bathroom when, unknowingly, we broke a valve. At the end of the day, everything seemed normal, so we left without any concerns.

The next day, when we returned, we were met with an unwelcome surprise—our entire living room was flooded! Water covered the floor, and we had no idea where it was coming from at first. After some investigating, we discovered the broken valve in the bathroom. It was a nightmare scenario for any homeowner, especially when everything had just been completed.

The cleanup was intense; we had to grab towels, buckets, and anything we could find to remove the water. The baseboards, unfortunately, were not waterproof, so we had to remove them as they were soaked beyond repair. However, my luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) was the hero of the day.

Thankfully, LVF is designed to handle situations like this. The flooring was completely unaffected by the water. We carefully uninstalled the pieces in the living room, dried them off, and made sure the floor underneath was completely dry. Once everything was ready, we reinstalled the same LVF pieces, and they fit perfectly, as if nothing had ever happened. All we needed was a new baseboard, and once we had the valve fixed, our living room was back to normal.

Had we opted for laminate or hardwood flooring, the outcome would have been drastically different. Both of those options are far more sensitive to water damage, and it likely would have cost us over $2,000 in repairs. Instead, our luxury vinyl flooring not only saved us money but also saved us the stress of a major renovation right after moving in.

If you’re considering new flooring, I can’t recommend LVF enough—it’s durable, water-resistant, and, in our case, a total lifesaver!
